Anne Invites Minister to Back Football Cause

Anne Snelgrove MP has invited Minister for the South West, Ben Bradshaw MP to back efforts to make football training available locally to youngsters in Parks.

Anne has backed the work of Chairman of the South Swindon Football Club, Mick Titcombe, who is arguing against the Council’s ruling that only adults can use Buckhurst Field for training and matches.

Anne said:

“Mick’s team are great – future stars, they are rightfully very proud of their progress and understandably want to train locally. Sport is a great way to keep kids out of trouble and improve their fitness – the Tory Council is undermining Mick’s efforts to improve the opportunity to take part available to young people in Parks. Ben Bradshaw will be in Swindon next week to meet me and hear about Mick’s case – hopefully from Mick himself.”

Mick Titcombe said: “The kids in the community deserve to use this park, as well as the adults. We might have some budding David Beckhams and Wayne Roonies.”

Mick Titcombe’s youth football club has under 7s,8s,9s,10,11s, and under 13s, 16s, and two adult teams.  He is struggling to understand why he cannot use Buckhurst Field for games but has to go to Lydiard Park with the youngsters.  He has been told by the Council that Buckhurst Field is for adults only.  The teams he coaches rely on lifts to and from Lydiard and obviously he wants to keep the clubs in the community.  He is affiliated to the North Wilts Youth FA and they are working towards charter standard which will give them extra funding.  This is their second season and they already are top, 4th and 5th and rest in the middle orders.
